The unsafe removal could be a top reason along with virus attack for a disk to become raw. I probably should have removed the fan and put some new thermal paste on the cpu, but I’ll wait til it becomes a problem and probably throw a new fan in there two if I can get one with the same form factor, the fan can get pretty loud.It often happens for users when their hard disk suddenly became raw and they need to fix the raw external hd to ntfs without formatting or losing data since there should be some vital files inside. Once I put hooked it back up to the TV, and started it up, the Troubleshooting screen displayed, so I just attached a USB stick into the left side usb port with the Offline Update (OSU1.zip only, the box updated to the newest version about a month ago), followed the wizard and it kept all my old games, apps, everything was there and its been great, hope to get another 10 plus years out of it. But the cloning process took 5 hours plus, I think because both the old XBOX HDD and the new SSD were connected to my laptop via USB Sata connectors. I didn’t need to use Linux, did the cloning on Windows with EaseUS Todo Backup 13.0 (free trial), it cloned all the existing partitions and the extra space shows up on the XBOX as usable internal storage. Inside the unit was super dusty, got the dust out with a Hair-dryer and gave the whole board, etc, an alcohol bath with a Q-Tip. Swapped it out with Samsumg 860 EVO 2TB SSD drive on Christmas day. My XBOX One starts up in about 15-20 seconds now, it used to take almost a minute, and apps run and install much faster. My experience was pretty painful, but worth it I think.
